Jungle walk around Black bay

What do we do in the weekends? Outside the Caribbean sailing season we go hunting for treasures in the Caribbean jungle!

So what do we look for? Old wooden boxes with gold, diamonds? Raawggrh get yer diamonnndsss! Ehh no. Since we saw the movie “Blood diamonds” Mallika doesn’t like diamonds anymore. And gold? Well, gold is way to heavy on a catamaran to do good sailingtours…. The treasures we look for are for our soul, our spirit. We don’t take them with us and we don’t box them. It’s the beautiful nature you can find in the rainforests on the Caribbean windward islands.

Jungle versus sailing in the Caribbean.

Grenada is nicknamed “the spice island,” and a trip here is anything but bland for adventure travelers. Most of this gorgeous island is covered in jungle. You can spend years here doing a hike once a week and still every hike is completely different. It is a miracle that such a small island has such a variety. You can cross rivers, find waterfalls, climb rocks or visit breathtaking beaches straight from the jungle covered with white sand or black volcanic sand. If you have time enough in the Caribbean it is a perfect combination: sailing around the unspoiled, little islands of the Grenadines and have some jungle hikes on Grenada. Also the Caribbean islands higher up are great for sailing and hiking, like Guadeloupe, Dominica and Martinique.

The Hash.

The perfect way for us to discover Grenada more and more is the Hash. This concept started in the army as a kind of training during free time for the soldiers. The ‘hares’ are setting the trail with dots of shredded paper through dense jungle, steep, muddy hills and deep valleys. We have to follow this trail of shredded paper and find our way back before dark. Can be challenging but it is great fun! You can read more about hashes throughout the world at: http://gotothehash.net/

Vulcano.

Grenada is the top of a big vulcano surrounded my the rainforest. You can read more about volcano crater here: https://www.atthehelm.today/grand-etang-lake-is-a-submarine-volcano/
