Being in the now. Limitless blue… the ocean and the sky, melting together as one at the horizon. I sink into a deep meditation spontaneously.

Each time when we are sailing for a long time with only the ocean surrounding us, I am surprised again how easy meditation is there. Limitless blue… the ocean and the sky, melting together as one at the horizon. I sink into a deep meditation spontaneously. No temptations from the outside world distracting the mind. But just silence and simple Being….

Centuries ago meditation already played an important role in most Eastern philosofies. It is seen as a strong tool in the achievement of selfrealisation. Being in silence and exploring the innermost depht inside yourself to realize more and more what or who we really are. Instead of keeping your mind wandering in the outside world, you bring your attention inwards. You simply wittness the chaos of thoughts and emotions whirling inside you and, by doing this regurlary, you will start to become aware of a constant and clear consciousness behind this all. That part which is always there, the Wittness. This is what we really Are!
This realisation brings us peace and happiness.

Here some other proven insights of meditation:
* Meditation makes studying more effective
While studying, it has been proven that doing meditation as a way of relaxation, enhances the study results. While having a nap or watching TV don’t have this benefit.
* You will live longer
The telomeres, which are found at the ends of your chromosomes, are becoming stronger by meditation. Aging goes less quick and therefore you will live longer.
* Meditation brings peace
Back in the eighties there were some experiments done in the Middle East which proved that transcendental meditation (TM) diminished the amount of violence. A group of 700 practioners meditated in conflict zones like Libanon. The result was overwhelming. The amount of deaths went back from 12 to 3 victims a day during the time they meditated. That means 75% less than before. The effect was also felt in Israël and other surrounding countries.
* Meditation helps against crime
In Washington they had an experiment with 3000 people meditating. In this period crime went down with 23%.
* You stay calm
Already the old kings of India knew that daily meditation by monks in their palace, had a calming effect on the people of that area. Therefore monks were always very welcome!
* You become more focussed
By meditating you create more grey matter in your brain ( the outer cortex). This part of your brain is responsible for your memory, alertness and makes you more desicive.
* Meditation changes your brain
While scientists in earlier days were convinced that the brain doesn’t grow anymore as soon as you become an adult, now they have to accept that by continuous meditation people can change the function and structure of their brain. Fascinating documentaries about this are: ‘ What the bleep do we know’ and ‘Down the rabbit hole’.
* Meditation is a strong painkiller
Morfin can give you a painreduction of 25%, while meditation can reduce pain with 40 %. So you can see meditation as a potentially stronger painkiller than morfine! Plus the side effects of meditation are only positive: more self knowledge, inner peace, bliss and instead of changing into a zombie you become more alert and aware.
* Already short meditations are beneficial
You don’t need to practize meditation for years or long hours a day to feel the effect. Investigation proves that already 5 minutes a day of meditation and being in the now will improve, for example, your health. My spiritual teacher Sri Bhagavan tells us the same: ‘ If you can meditate for only 5 minutes a day it will already change your life completely.’
From my own experience however I know that as soon as meditation gets you, you just want to make time for it no matter what.
